This 90-minute virtual session is the second of a 4-session webinar series for paraprofessionals. One may attend all four sessions in the order that they are offered or one may pick and choose between the sessions.
Join us as we take a look at how your role as a paraprofessional can help create inclusive supports to benefit each student. We will discuss inclusion as belief system and set of practices that values diversity and fosters a shared responsibility to help all students to access and progress within the general education curriculum and achieve in academic and non-academic school activities.
We will explore ways that paraprofessionals can provide the support necessary for students to become as highly engaged as possible in school life. Moving students toward independence by providing, then fading support is a key element in the inclusion process. A great paraprofessional can make a vast and positive difference in the educational experience of a student.
The paraprofessional, under the direction of a teacher, plays a key role in supporting the implementation of the educational program. Teachers and paraprofessionals work together to develop a productive professional relationship.
This session will utilize the TEA-vetted documents, "Working with Paraprofessionals: A Resource for Teachers of Students with Disabilities" and the "Working with Paraprofessionals Field Users Guide." No prior knowledge or training is required prior to attending this session.
This session is appropriate for paraprofessionals who support inclusive services and/or work within self-contained settings and general education and special education teachers who act as the supervising teacher for paraprofessionals.
Other Fall sessions offered in the paraprofessional series are listed below. We highly suggest attending all sessions.
