Diving Deeper into Sold a Story: Series
This four-week series will consist of four one-hour virtual sessions based on the podcast, Sold a Story: How Teaching Kids to Read Went So Wrong. The podcast addresses Marie Clay’s theory of teaching reading which is essentially, a 60-year-old unscientific theory on how children learn turned into a multi-million dollar industry and it is not helping kids learn to read (Acerro, 2023).
Participants are highly encouraged to listen to the podcast prior to the session's start date. You can listen for free (Sold a Story website, Apple, Google, or Spotify). This four-hour series features Dr. Matthew Burns, Dr. Bruce McCandliss, and Ms. Emily Hanford. In hours one and two Burns and McCandliss make connections and expand upon their research. In the third hour Hanford, journalist and host of the Sold a Story podcast, speaks on the podcast and the future. In the final hour of the series all three experts will come together for a submitted question and answer session.
If you would like to submit a question to be considered for the Q&A session you may do so here: https://forms.gle/feBSneWPv2FN7yEg7
