CISA Region 6 ESC 20 School Safety Summit



The ESC-20 School Safety Program provides training and technical assistance to school districts in the comprehensive development of school safety programs.



Important Session Information:


Following the Uvalde School Shooting, interagency partners in South Texas coordinated a discussion which included Texas School Safety Center and Education Support Centers (ESC) 1 and 20, Local PD’s Safety Resource Officers, Southwest Texas Fusion Center, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Antonio Field Office and Security Service San Antonio Field Office, Department of Homeland Security CISA and DHS I&A to discuss each agency’s roles and responsibilities related to School Safety in the region.

What was discussed

§Identify and better understand the general and specific requirements and authorities in the district
§Identify the districts capabilities and limitations in school safety outreach.
§Identify and understand local ISD security level of understanding and ability to implement current resources
§Better understand system and threshold for reporting behavioral indicators to law enforcement for threat management teams within ISDs
 

The need identified

§The need for a more direct training of capabilities in the region
§To provide examples on how all school safety resources align
§Provide updates to legislation
§And connect the ISD with the Subject matter expert
