Virtual Math Summer Sessions Bundle
This session provides participants with access to both of the 3 hour sessions described below. Attendees will need to log in and participate each day to receive the full 6 hours of credit.
Day 1: July 27th
Numeracy and Language Skills Development with Christopher Woodin
Help students of any age develop numeracy and the language skills necessary to describe related facts and procedures by prompting them to compare quantities through multimodal presentations. Being numerate means being able to reason with numbers and other mathematical concepts, to apply them to a range of contexts and to solve related problems. Number sense is developed by establishing a robust, durable understanding of quantities so that their values may be compared.
In the first half of this session, Christopher Woodin will review some current research in the field of processing quantities, and how to facilitate the acquisition of numeracy within our students. Various games, worksheets and activities to develop numeracy will be demonstrated, and supported with free online materials.
In the second half of this session participants will spend time looking at the resources shared and discussing how to incorporate them into classroom instruction in the upcoming school year.
To enroll in this session individually register for session 96703.
Day 2: Aug 2nd
Virtual Building a Better Beginning: Revamp your Warm-Up Routine and Promote Mathematical Process Skills
This session will equip you with effective strategies to revamp your warm-up routine and promote mathematical process skills. You will discover how to optimize the first few minutes of your math lessons, target low performing TEKS, and increase student engagement using warm-up activities and techniques that activate prior knowledge and reinforce key concepts. Moreover, several of the strategies you'll learn in this session are highly versatile and can be applied to various subject areas beyond mathematics. You can adapt these techniques to suit your teaching style and effectively engage your students in different topics, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Don't miss this chance to expand your teaching toolkit and enhance student success across multiple disciplines!
