Children with an autism spectrum disorder have significant delays in their communication and social interaction skills. When attempting to teach new language and social skills, it is important to make the learning activities enjoyable such that while the child learns important language, they are motivated to interact with others, especially those who work with them. This offering is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the verbal behavior analysis of language.
For students who do not benefit from trial and error teaching procedures - specifically learners with autism spectrum disorder - errorless teaching procedures are an effective method.
This session will focus on bridging the gap between a learners beginning point and the final result. Participants will learn about errorless teaching and how it breaks down a skill into its component parts and assists students in performing the desired outcome.
Procedures discussed:
- stimulus shaping
- stimulus fading
- time delay
- superimposition
This offering is part of the series: Session # 46422 Turning your Early Childhood Classroom into a ShaperSpace! Learning the Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis While Increasing Language and Communication Skills in Students with Autism
