The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004 mandates that each student who receives special education services have an Individual Education Program (IEP) that includes "appropriate measurable post-secondary goals" no later than the first IEP to be in effect when the student is 16 years old. Our State law in Texas mandates that we start this planning no later than the student's 14th birthday.
This workshop will give an overview of how to use the data from an age appropriate transition assessment to write post-secondary goals in a way that will satisfy the requirements of State Performance Plan (SPP) Indicator 13, (IEPs that meet transition requirements, including coordinated, measurable, annual IEP goals that will reasonably enable students to meet post-secondary outcomes), and and how to support these goals using the IEP, including ensuring annual IEP goals facilitate movement toward a student's post-secondary goals.
