Writing in the Disciplines-Encouraging Writing with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students in All Content Areas



ESC-20 provides training and technical assistance to programs serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing, including assisting programs meet the unique needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing across the continuum of placement options.

Important Session Information:


Workshop participants learn how to add writing practice to their courses that will help students improve their writing and at the same time enhance their learning in the discipline. Topics covered include why writing matters, the role of informal and low stakes writing both in and out of class, building a formal writing product using scaffolding techniques, developing meaningful rubrics for evaluating writing products, and providing students with feedback on their writing in the context of a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) classroom. This workshop is for any educator working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing both in a mainstream environment as well as Deaf Education classrooms.
