This workshop is a fresh research-based look at differentiation based on the work of Dr. Robert Sternberg and Dr. Carrie Simpson. Specifically, we will consider differentiating process--the way students interact with the learning or material based on their various thinker types. Sternberg leads us to those types- creative, analytic and practical. This path works toward improving retention and developing a meaningful connection to the material. Differentiating process should also include independent or self-directed learning, complex abstract or higher order thinking, open-ended or divergent tasks, and research skills and methods. Using Sternberg's terminology, our goal is to promote "successful intelligence."
