This 2-day inter-professional workshop will explore the provision of educationally relevant related services in the “age of Endrew”. Following an introduction to the Endrew F v. Douglas County School District US Supreme Court ruling, participants will apply a high-expectations lens for students with disabilities as a driver for:
- Diagnostic assessment and use of learning progressions
- Standards-aligned, reasonably-calculated IEPs
- Specially-designed interventions
- Measuring impact of intervention
Using a combination of lecture, discussion, and small group activities, the instructors will guide participants through the therapy process in school-based practice using NCII’s data-based individualization framework. By also addressing some of the programmatic features of educationally relevant related services (e.g., workload modeling), the course will equip participants to better describe and measure both student and practitioner performance throughout the special education/therapy process.
Participants will be able to:
¤ Identify appropriate, participation-focused, educationally relevant evaluation methods
¤ Describe the role of related service provider data in eligibility determinations for special education and protection under Section 504
¤ Discuss the complexity of individualized service delivery determination
¤ Construct data-rich present levels of student performance
¤ Construct student-centered, standards-aligned goals and objectives, including a progress monitoring plan
¤ Create an educationally relevant plan of care
