Assessment for Intervention: Advanced Use of XBASS and Finding Interventions and Resources for Students and Teachers Webinar

ESC-20 provides resources, training and technical assistance for evaluators. Quarterly contact group meetings for LSSP’s and Educational Diagnosticians are also provided.

Important Session Information:

This webinar with Dr. Dawn Flanagan reviews the latest revisions and refinements to CHC theory as well as the relations between specific cognitive abilities, processes, and academic skills. An overview of the main functions of the Cross-Battery Assessment Software System (X-BASS v2.3) will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on new features, such as the PSW-Quick Analysis tab, the Data Entry-Other tab, and the Evaluate Score Configuration button of the XBA Analyzer tab. Several examples will be used to demonstrate the new features and functionality of X-BASS. Also, cohesion analysis will be discussed within the context of current research to ensure that decisions made on the XBA Analyzer tab are psychometrically defensible. Next, the pattern of strengths and weaknesses (PSW) approach to SLD identification will be presented, with a focus on the Dual Discrepancy/Consistency (DD/C) method. Values calculated by X-BASS that are necessary for PSW analysis will be reviewed. A new value, called the Academic-specific Inhibiting Cognitive Composite will also be described. Current research on the utility of the PSW method will be reviewed critically.

To facilitate the process of linking assessment findings to interventions, this webinar introduces a new tool: Intervention Library: Finding Interventions and Resources for Students and Teachers (IL:FIRST®). The Intervention Library is a compilation of over 1000 entries that are uniquely organized into six categories, including Instructional, Environmental, Curricular, Skill-Building Techniques, Remediation Programs, and Compensatory Strategies. A wide variety of interventions are included in each of these categories to address a students’ unique learning needs. The library includes interventions for 10 cognitive and 8 academic domains.
