2021 Virtual Bilingual Conference

Advocating for Social Justice for Emerging Bilingual Learners: Finding our Voices

The Education Service Center, Region 20 is proud to host the ESC-20 Virtual Bilingual Conference that unites teachers, administrators, and community members.  Join us as our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Kathy Escamilla engages us in ways we can support our "Emergent Bilingual" students.

Well-meaning educators sometimes engage in rhetoric that positions emerging bilingual learners and their families in deficit ways. This presentation will start by identifying the deficit rhetoric and then present strategies that we can use (if we are armed with courage, confidence and commitment) to resist and overcome
the deficit rhetoric.

Our Bilingual conference serves as an opportunity to explore the successes of bilingual education in order to meet the needs of our emergent bilingual students.
