This workshop will focus on the regulations and best practices related to termination of eligibility in special education decisions. A number of dismissal scenarios will be discussed including dismissal for a student with an articulation impairment, a student with a language impairment and a specific learning disability, and a student with an intellectual disability whose skills have plateaued. These scenarios will illustrate the use of data sources and relevant regulations for decision making. This session is designed for speech-language pathologists, licensed psychologists in school psychology, educational diagnosticians, ARD facilitators, administrators, and parents of students with disabilities. Participants are encouraged to have available the dismissal operating procedures for their district or charter.
Objectives:
- Describe regulations and best practices for termination of eligibility in special education decisions.
- Discuss the use of data sources useful in making dismissal decisions for special education.
- Evaluate the application of regulations and best practices to a variety of dismissal scenarios
