Assessing Campus Climate & Culture to Improve Overall School Safety

AIS Professional Development

Important Session Information:

LEAs are required to comply with provisions in SB 11 from the 86th Legislative Session. Assessing campus culture and climate is required and one of the six activities identified under the Safe & Supportive Schools Program (SSSP). Each school district or open-enrollment charter school is responsible for identifying a school climate survey tool from a list provided by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and annually implement the survey for school personnel, students, and parents.

This workshop will take an in-depth look at the relationship between school climate and culture and how that impacts campus safety and security. This interactive workshop will discuss and help plan how to assess a school’s current climate and how to create a vision for a safer and more supportive school. Participants will also come away with strategies on how to build a team involving various stakeholders throughout the school and community and how to sustain their efforts over time.
