The presenters will be addressing two sessions during this workshop.
The first session is Dating Violence, Policies and Procedures per TEC Chapter 37 (1.5 hrs). Participants will learn about the barriers to students leaving an abusive relationship; the four types of abuse identified in dating violence law; as well as resources available for implementing a dating violence prevention program.
The second session is Sexual Harassment & Assault: What Schools Need To Know (1.5 hrs). It focuses on the overall problem, federal laws that impact schools and defining sexual harassment. It looks at the effects of sexual harassment and school responsibilities for dealing with these issues. It takes an in-depth look at what teachers and staff can do when responding to sexual assault of a student and legal factors to consider in Texas. The training also addresses sexual abuse indicators for younger students and how to respond to children that disclose sexual abuse.
