Family/Community Engagement

Important Session Information:

The focus of this workshop is to inform parents about the school safety initiatives school districts and charter schools are engaged in to maintain school safety. Most of these activities were legislatively mandated in 2019 through Senate Bill 11. Events such as the tragedy in Uvalde tend to create unrest with parents when it comes to the safety of their children. The unrest typically prompts parents to ask, “what is our school district or charter school doing to keep our children safe?” Parents tend to focus on the school safety initiatives which are visible such as security cameras, police officers, enclosed entrance vestibules, etc. Although these items are critical to school safety, the presenter will emphasize many school safety activities which occur “behind the scenes,” that parents may not be aware of and explain how they contribute to promoting school safety.
