Early Childhood
Nature Connection for Optimal Outdoor Learning at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens

Education Service Center, Region 20 (ESC-20) provides assistance to districts in the successful development and implementation of a school readiness integration model of coordinated funding that brings school districts, Head Start programs and child care providers together in a mixed delivery model.  ESC-20 also provides leadership to ensure the effective regional implementation of appropriate instructional strategies in early childhood settings through technical assistance and professional development in the areas of developmentally appropriate practices and curriculum and supports parents with Pre-Kindergarten information and eligibility criteria.

Important Session Information:

The environment is the third teacher and often student engagement is increased when students feel a strong sense of belonging and contribution to their classroom. Outdoor learning is no different. In this session, participants will learn how to develop a sense of belonging in the outdoors and foster student ownership for outdoor learning environments. Participants will leave with an understanding of the benefits of building a reciprocal relationship between student and nature that will lead to rigorous and vigorous outdoor learning.

This session will take place at the Botanical Gardens.

Plan to be outdoors for the majority of the day. We will meet rain or shine. There is no bad weather, just bad clothing/planning! (Severe weather conditions will be monitored and decisions will be made in the interest of our participants' safety.)
