The LOTE specialists provide professional
development and technical assistance for the purpose of improving the
linguistic proficiency of all students learning a foreign language. World
language educators are invited to networking sessions. The following areas are
targeted: research-based
practices in foreign language classroom instruction and testing, the LOTE TEKS,
the needs of heritage and non-heritage speakers, and the three modes of
communication (interpersonal, presentational and receptive) essential to
language acquisition in a proficiency-based classroom.
