Instructional arrangement or placement is the setting that the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and services can best be implemented. It is an individualized determination based on the goals and services necessary to meet the student's academic, functional, communication, and related needs. Admission, Review, and Dismissal committees are required to consider least restrictive environment (LRE) for every student. An IEP that is written for a student who is deaf or hard of hearing should include considerations for the student's access to language, mode of communication at home and school, language development and fluency abilities, communication partners, school placement, and other environmental impacts on language and communication needs. In this session, participants will identify, define, and analyze the considerations of LRE when determining placement for students who are DHH.
