The focus of this session is developing present levels of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP) statements based on student data, drafting annual goals (academic and/or functional) including, if appropriate, goal objectives and collecting data for reporting progress. Participants will understand the importance of these components and how alignment results in an appropriate and ambitious individualized education program for students receiving special education and related services. The intended audience for this training is special education teachers, related service providers, and any other professional staff responsible for drafting a student’s IEP, including present levels of academic achievement and functional performance and measurable annual goals.
This training was created by the Child Find, Evaluation, and ARD Support Statewide Technical Assistance Statewide Initiative in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency with state and federal grants.
Day 1 will focus on foundational concepts for standards-based IEP development, student data collection and evaluation, and the development of Present Levels of Academic and Functional Performance Statements. Emphasis will be placed on regulations and processes for implementation.
Day 2 emphasizes the process and essential components for writing IEP goals. Both academic and functional goals will be highlighted. In addition, requirements for IEP data collection and progress monitoring will be presented.
Day 3 serves as a pivotal link, utilizing the knowledge acquired from the preceding days to integrate practices into the IEP development process. This session offers participants the opportunity to put these fresh ideas into practice through hands-on implementation and coaching, specifically targeting dyslexia and other reading disorders.
Participants will need to bring all materials provided in day 1 and day 2, as well as a current PLAAFP and associated IEP goals for at least one student on their caseload.
