Learning Off Site sessions will occur outside the walls of ESC-20. These sessions are facilitated with community partners and may be conducted at a number of off site locations and in a variety of content areas.
Bringing Informational Texts to Life at Mitchell Lake
Join us for a collaboration with our community partner Mitchell Lake Audubon Center as we explore ways to bring informational texts to life! We’ll look at examples of informational texts from HQIM and discuss cross-curricular connections for students to deepen their understanding of content in science with informational text features. Teachers will explore reading and writing strategies to strengthen students’ skills for RLA STAAR and discover ways to bring the outdoors into the classroom. Whether you plan a field trip for your class out to Mitchell Lake, or have a bird-watching adventure in your own backyard, student engagement with informational texts will surely soar after exploring possibilities with us.

Where: Mitchell Lake Audubon Center 10750 Pleasanton Rd, San Antonio, TX 78221
What to bring: Comfortable walking shoes and pants, electronic devices for access to texts. We will provide bug spray, sunscreen, and notebooks.

Plan to be outdoors for the majority of the day. We will meet rain or shine. (Severe weather conditions will be monitored and decisions will be made in the interest of our participants' safety.)
