G/T 6 hour update: Integrating Art and Creativity into the Elementary Language Arts Curriculum



The Gifted and Talented program at Education Service Center, Region 20 (ESC-20) promotes and supports the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students through professional development and technical assistance. This is accomplished by advocating, designing and providing an array of learning experiences for teachers and administrators of gifted and talented students in order to enable them to provide a nurturing environment in which these students with special abilities, unique needs, and diverse backgrounds are recognized.

Important Session Information:


Investigate English Language Arts concepts and vocabulary for elementary grades that are supported with creative art activities, with an emphasis on writing poetry and poetry appreciation. The training includes an overview of characteristics of gifted learners and how these activities can strengthen program services. It offers opportunities for talent development and potential identification of giftedness in underrepresented populations. Lesson plans and strategies include both the English Language Arts and fine arts TEKS. This training can take the place of G/T Day 4 or 5 if not previously taken or as a 6 hour update.
